I joined Ocklynge in September 2012 after having worked in the East End of London for thirteen years.
I am delighted to be part of this vibrant school and aim to support the many initiatives which enable our pupils to enjoy a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum.
My main passion is literature and I aim to expose children to good quality texts at every opportunity. I have even been known to quote Shakespeare in P.E lessons!
I joined Ocklynge in April 2015 and previously worked for 11 years as Inclusion Manager at Stone Cross School. Prior to that I worked as a teacher in London, leading on literacy and ethnic minority achievements. I am currently the lead teacher for child protection, pupil premium, special educational needs and managing support staff.
I have been head of year 3 since 2011 after being head of year 5 since Easter 2005 having previously worked as a class teacher at Ocklynge.
Prior to Ocklynge, I worked as a secondary school link teacher in year 7 and before that in the primary sector.
I joined the team at Ocklynge in December 2015.
Whilst I was not born in Eastbourne, I spent most of my childhood growing up and being educated in local primary schools so know Ocklynge very well. This is now my second career and I draw on a wealth of knowledge outside the school environment. I have now worked in different school sectors in East Sussex over the past 15 years. I am the lead for all things Human Resource, Finance, Premises and Health & Safety focused. With this in mind, I feel privileged to be part of this hard working team. I am looking forward to finding new ways of funding the continued learning experience of your child whilst they are with us at Ocklynge.
Hi my name is Sylvia Berhane. I've been at Ocklynge Junior School for over 10 years now -
I've always enjoyed teaching and I love the way children think and learn! Outside of school, I love travelling and reading.
I have been waiting with great anticipation to start as Headteacher here at Ocklynge. It is a job that I have aspired to for many years and as such it’s a dream come true to be here and to lead this brilliant school forward.
I have been a headteacher in East Sussex for approximately 17 years first at Broad Oak CP School in Heathfield and then at Seaford Primary School where I was headteacher for almost 13 years. I am very much looking forward to working alongside you all in improving and developing the education for all the children.
